We are a group of Paediatricians who work alongside a Communications Consultant to deliver high quality Communication Skills Training to paediatric doctors in training and existing Paediatric Consultants.
Dr Ashley Reece
Ashley is a General Pediatrician and Paediatric Educator. He has been a Consultant at WatfordGeneralHospital since 2005. He is a College examiner for Membership, the Diploma in Child Health and has recently taken on the Chair of the Specialist Trainee Assessment of Readiness for Tenure [as a Consultant] (START) Assessment. Prior to becoming a College examiner he taught on Membership written, clinical and communication courses. He has contributed to RCPCH examinations as a senior trainee and Consultant, devising strategy, writing DCH structured oral questions, MRCPCH Part 2 written questions and Communication Scenarios. He has examined MRCPCH in UK and overseas in Egypt, running a bespoke Teaching the Teachers course in Cairo for Egyptian doctors. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a founder Member of the Academy of Medical Educators. He has a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. He has published peer-reviewed publications in the education literature, including Medical Education journal. He has hosted the Membership examination. Ashley co-organises the RCPCH’s Paediatric Education Programme.
Dr Vasanta Nanduri
Vasanta is a Paediatric Oncologist and Endocrinologist who has been Consultant at Watford General Hospital since 2000. She was selected to be an Examiner and host for the MRCPCH with the advent of the new style exam in 2004 and has been Senior Examiner for several years. She examines regularly both in the UK and overseas and was recently involved in setting up the first clinical exam in India. Vasanta was Chair of the Video group of the MRCPCH from 2004 to 2012 where she established the working group and built up the video database. She has recently been selected to be Chair of the Clinical MRCPCH for the UK where her remit includes assessing the performance of the stations in the MRCPCH clinical exams, training new examiners and the revalidation of existing examiners. She is an international expert in the field of Histiocytoses and has over 20 peer reviewed publications in the field.
Dr Richard Burridge
Richard is a Consultant Paediatrician at Watford General Hospital, with an interest in Ambulatory Paediatrics and Medical Education. As a trainee he has acted as host registrar for the MRCPCH Clinical Exam and has been involved in question writing for the MRCPCH Part 1 and Part 2 written exams for the last two years. He also sits on the Video Group for the RCPCH Clinical Exam Board. He has a Masters in Medical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
James Hutchinson is a communications consultant. He has helped hundreds of people communicate more effectively, from company directors, investment bankers and lawyers to MBAs, PhDs, doctors and media professionals. He has worked in dozens of companies with global leaders & managing directors, customer service departments, sales staff and communications & PR teams. He also prepares senior executives for media interviews. James has particular interests in communication using empathy and sensitivity, use of the voice and body language, combating nerves & low-confidence and resolving communication difficulties or challenges. In 1998 James was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure, and estimates he’s had several hundred doctors and medical professionals communicate with him as a result!
