This MRCPCH Communication Skills Course has been set up by a team of Paediatricians from Watford General Hospital in the UK. We have the support of the Eastern Deanery who are committed to supporting quality exam-focused training. The Consultants have teamed up with an expert in communication with experience of role playing to develop a practical course which will train you for effective communication.
During the morning session all candidates will have the opportunity to complete a communications scenario with a professional role-player, and then receive immediate feedback from the faculty & the role-player. The other candidates will have the opportunity to observe these scenarios and take part in a short discussion prior to each scenario. After lunch, the course will cover the aspects of communication which were observed to be in need of attention from the morning’s activities. Focus will be on key areas of the communication stations, including scenario strategy, introductions, body language, use of jargon, empathy, breaking bad news and on any other issues observed during the morning sessions. There will be the opportunity to re-run parts of the scenarios, and work through new scenarios.
Each candidate will receive a detailed course handbook and will receive written as well as verbal feedback from the day. This course will put candidates in a very strong position to go forward and perform well in the communication stations in the MRCPCH exam, but also provide practical advice and strategies which can be taken into everyday practice in paediatric medicine.
This is a one day course and the course fee is £200 which includes all the teaching, a course hand book and lunch.
